Using your app
The Mac App Store
Listing on the Mac App Store has different requirements from sharing an app on the web.
| Web distribution | Mac App Store | |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate | Developer ID Application | Apple Distribution and Mac Installer Distribution |
| Sandbox | Not required | Required (entitlements file) |
| Notarization | Yes | No (Apple reviews the app instead) |
| Package | .app or .dmg | Signed .pkg uploaded to App Store Connect |
| Review | None | Apple Review |
Before you start
Apps built by silicondevkit.com do not yet include everything the App Store requires. You need to add:
- an app icon,
- the
LSApplicationCategoryTypekey inInfo.plist, - a build version that increases with every upload,
- an embedded provisioning profile,
- a sandbox entitlements file.
You also need a paid Apple Developer Program membership.
Step by step
The commands for signing, packaging, uploading and submitting are in the post Submitting a Mac app to the Mac App Store from the terminal.
