Scribe

Markdown notes with a live preview.

Download for Mac (.zip)Free · macOS 13 or later

Scribe is a simple notes app where every note is a plain Markdown file.

What it does

  • Plain files. Notes are saved as .md files in ~/Documents/Scribe, so you can open them in any other editor.
  • Live preview. Write on one side, see the rendered Markdown on the other.
  • Autosave. You don't have to press save.
  • Create, rename and delete. Deleted notes go to the Trash.
  • Always on top. A toolbar toggle keeps the window above your other windows.

Notes

The preview supports common Markdown such as headings, lists, bold and italic, and code. It is a basic renderer, not a full Markdown engine.

The prompt behind it

This app was generated from the prompt below. Paste it into silicondevkit.com to build your own version, then change it however you like.

Build a Markdown notes app called Scribe. A sidebar lists notes saved as .md files in ~/Documents/Scribe (create the folder on first launch). The main area has a text editor with a live rendered Markdown preview side by side, autosave, and buttons to create, rename and delete notes. Add an Always on top toggle in the toolbar.

Opening it for the first time

This app is signed ad hoc and is not notarized, so macOS may block the first launch. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. See Signing and first launch.
